From Choirs to Wires: Preston’s Story

Preston is a three-time state champion a cappella performer, but outside his love for singing, he’s an aspiring electrical line worker. He’s studying the trade at Northwest Lineman College and is excited to pursue a hands-on field. From hitting the high notes to hitting high up electrical lines, Preston is primed for his next chapter.

• What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM or a trade, and what excites you most about this path?

  I have always loved working with my hands, and electricity is a fantastic field of work.

• How do you see this scholarship helping you achieve your career goals, and what difference do you hope to make in your field?

  This scholarship will provide me with funds to pursue my education and career goals, and focus more of my time on my schooling.

• Who has been your biggest supporter or role model throughout your education?

  My dad has always pushed me to work harder than I think I’m able to, and to try new things and experiences.

• What are you most excited about as you begin your college or trade school journey?

  I’m exited for the familiarity of school with a new twist of linework.

• What’s one fun fact about you that people might not expect from someone pursuing a career in your field?

  I am a three-time state champion in high school a cappella choir. I love to sing!

• If you could instantly learn any skill before starting college or trade school, what would it be?

  Knowing everything about electricity would be nice.

• If you had an entire day to do whatever you wanted—no school or work—how would you spend it?

  I would spend it with my friends and family outside.
