Keeping It Cool: Angel’s Story

A particularly hot summer got Angel recognizing the value of something critical: a well-functioning HVAC system. That’s what led him to taking HVAC courses at his current trade school, where he has one year left. Outside of the practicality of heating and air, Angel has a risk-taking side - he has been skydiving many times.

College: Wenatchee Valley College, finishing second year studying Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

• What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM or a trade, and what excites you most about this path?

  During a hot summer, I really got interested in the HVAC trade due to the demand that it needs and it inspired me to learn more about it.

• How do you see this scholarship helping you achieve your career goals, and what difference do you hope to make in your field?

  I see this scholarship helping me achieve my career goals because it helps me further my education in HVAC and stay up to date with the newest tools coming into the trade. I hope I can make an impact in this trade as I am very dedicated to learn about it.

• Who has been your biggest supporter or role model throughout your education?

  My biggest supporter has been my professor. Since day one, he has been motivating me to always keep going and to not give up.

• What are you most excited about as you begin your college or trade school journey?

  I’m excited to further my education, as I am finishing my first year. I can’t wait to start my second - and last - year.

• What’s one fun fact about you that people might not expect from someone pursuing a career in your field?

  I’ve gone skydiving multiple times.

• If you could instantly learn any skill before starting college or trade school, what would it be?

  It would be learning how to handle troubleshooting as it would give me a boost.

• If you had an entire day to do whatever you wanted—no school or work—how would you spend it?

  A good day at the beach.
